Not sure if this should go here or in requests but here goes anyways.

Object edit is a good app, but it could be better. So this thread is for anyone to make suggestions for it. I'll keep bumping it for a while and maybe if enough people start requesting stuff we'll see some more development.

I'll start it off with TABS! In my case this would be super useful when trying to mod skins. Instead of having multiple windows with reference files and the one I'm working on I could just flip from tab to tab. Hotkeys for tab switching are a must, and mouse gestures would be even better.

I'm sure I'll think of more later but thats the big one. What can the rest of you come up with?

Is OE anywhere near the focus of Stardock? I like it and would love to see it improved but unless SD is going to invest in it . . why bother asking for suggestions?

Perhaps enough people showing interest in it will lead to it being improved. Thanks for the first vote Zubaz

I've got a friend that working on what he hopes with be ObjectEdit 2.0, but the project is in its very early stages.

Well this sounds like the perfect time for feature suggestions then!

Yet further proof of my psychic abilities...

Object Edit is a bit limited. When I'm creating logons and need to work with multiple uifiles I have been using Notepad++. It's free, supports tabs and many other features. http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm

When OE fails, I use Programmer's File Editor.

Only complaint: No hotkey for 'Select all'

I'd love to see OE further developed. I have a number of suggestions if the SD team is interested.

Let's hear them. Or at least read them.

* OE remembering it's maximized state. Currently it just opens the window to fit the screen, but it's not actually maximized.

* The gutterbar with the linecount is currently using the same font colour as the content. This causes problems if I've set it to a light colour since the text will be rendered virtually invisible and there's no way of setting the background colour of the gutterbar.

* Having to go through Syntax->Syntax Style in the menu to get to the syntax selection is very awkward. Add it into a seperate menu of it's own so it only takes a max of two clicks and minimum mousemovement.

* Ability to add toolbar buttons for your syntax styles would be nice as you use some more often than other. It's espesially when you create new files that this comes in handy.

* Be able to have one syn files apply to more than one file extension. As it's now, one for HTML and one for HTM, awkward.

* Be able to define escape characters. For instance PHP sometimes becomes oddly highlighted if escape characters are used.

* When you scroll up or down a document and your cursor happend to move outside the area of the scrollbar it will scrollback to it's original position. Very annoying.

* When searching a document, begin to search from the beginning when you've hit the bottom. (possibly an alert to the user)

* Be able to indent block selection of text with tab.

* I second the suggestion of document tabs. (with the asumtion that Ctrl+Tab will create new tab and shortcuts for tabs matches other popular applications with tabs)

* Option to add/remove the shell context menuitem. (possibly even it's position)

I'm pretty sure there's more I've been thinking of, but it's late and I can't remember any more. But it's a good start, eh?

BTW, anyone actually manage to use them plugins availibel for OE? should be ione for JS, but I've never really been able to use it or notice any difference when editing js files.

Now that's what I like to see, an organized and detailed list.

Just thought of another myself...

A Compare feature
on Aug 09, 2006
About the compare feature... It would be cool if in the menu bar there was a drop target and you could drag either a tab or a file from an explorer window and drop it. Then it would compare the two files.

I agree on this one in particular. Even though I am aware of the problem, I'll sometimes be focused on getting the section I want visible, then release the mouse button only to have it scroll away.

Another issue. Does anyone else get this? Sometimes the toolbar for ObjectEdit windows begins to grow vertically. Everytime the window get's focus, it will add a few pixels to the height of the toolbar-button area, evetually obscuring all the text area. I have found it happens more often when using certain windowblinds.

I've not seen that last issue. What skins where you using when it happened?
